Who Is Dr. Shefali Tsabary?

Dr. Shefali is a New York Times bestselling author with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University and a leading authority on conscious parenting.

Her expertise isn’t solely academic; it’s deeply personal. Dr. Shefali’s journey into this revolutionary parenting approach began with a pivotal moment involving her 3-year-old daughter.

Confronted with her child’s tantrum, she realized her reactions stemmed not from her daughter’s behavior but from her own unmet childhood needs.

This profound self-awareness catalyzed a transformative shift in Dr. Shefali’s parenting style. She untangled unconscious projections and fostered a newfound understanding and connection with her child.

Conscious Parenting Mastery Dr. Shefali Tsabary

Mindvalley brings you Conscious Parenting Mastery.

One topic I have not covered in my blog is Conscious Parenting. Conscious parenting is when you actively and with your whole mind’s full participation and decide to raise more Authentic, Fulfilled & Self-Aware Children.

Your children are sovereign beings, spirits with unique individual expressions, and just because you helped create them does not mean they are your property to do with as you wish.

Unless you wake up to this fact, you will ruin your children.

  1. Do you ever question the choices you make as a parent?
  2. Do you ever worry that your child may inherit the same insecurities and weaknesses as you?
  3. Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the conflicting opinions on what makes a fair and effective parent?

Being a parent, you want to work on your personal growth so you don’t dump your baggage onto your children. You want to end generational problems like addictions and emotional issues so your children do not carry them with them.

Let the generational curses end with you!

Parenting can be a very lonely journey. Please think of when we lost our temper as parents and yelled at our children—when we felt“trapped” in the endless parenting responsibilities.

Think of those times you experienced as a parent that you don’t talk about publicly because of the fear of labeling yourself as a ‘bad parent.’ What about when our children were so upset they didn’t talk to us?

Or the times when we chose one child over the other?

Dr. Shefali Tsabary emphasizes that as parents, our deepest desire is to provide our children with the best opportunities for growth and success. Yet, amidst our noble intentions, there’s often one child who goes unnoticed and neglected: our inner child.

This inner child yearns for the same love, care, acknowledgment, and connection we strive to give our children. Often, without realizing it, our parenting reflects the unmet needs of our childhood.

Until we heal these unresolved needs within ourselves, we risk unconsciously projecting them onto our children, passing down the same fears and insecurities we once experienced.

To empower our children to become resilient, fulfilled, courageous, and authentic individuals, we must first embark on a journey of self-parenting. This is at the core of Conscious Parenting—nurturing ourselves so that we can, in turn, nurture our children from a place of wholeness and authenticity.

Conscious Parenting

Below, I will share some of my Conscious Parenting Mastery Mindvalley Quest notes.

Is parenting really about the child?

Only when we shatter this myth will things begin to shift. We can start to notice the many ways in which we parent unconsciously.

It is the very first step towards accountability. Accountability requires a considerable act of courage and consciousness.

Conscious parents are brave enough to look into the mirror and see the truth staring back without hiding or running away from it. Take this first step—a big one.

Your awakening is underway.

Conscious Parenting Mindvalley – Today’s tasks

Reflect on the underlying ego in your parenting.

  1. What was your vision for becoming a parent?
  2. What fantasies did you have about how you would be as a parent?
  3. What kind of child did you fantasize about having?

Unless we awaken, we are bound to repeat patterns. We have no choice but to.

When we understand how our past can influence our present, we will identify these patterns in how we interact with our children.

Understanding the patterns we’ve inherited is the first step to unlearning them. Only when we unlearn the habits will we have the ultimate freedom to choose.

Learn what the ultimate source of guilt and shame in parenting is.

Let’s release the notion that we “should” know what to do once and for all. Let’s embrace a new paradigm: to parent consciously, we must cultivate a daily and moment-by-moment awareness.

It’s a continuous and ever-evolving journey. Every moment matters.

Conscious Parenting Mindvalley- Today’s tasks

  • Observe your children in an entirely different way. Consciously attune and shift your focus to your children’s essence.

Let’s talk about one of the biggest obstacles to connection. It is one of the most reflexive emotional habits humans, especially parents, engage in.

Through projection, we create movies and stories in our heads and ways of being that may not be accurate. When we project our ways onto our children, we forget to see them for who they indeed are.

A large piece of conscious parenting involves the practice of meditation. Meditation teaches us to take essential pauses. Most importantly, it makes us more aware of who we are.

Meditation allows us to enter the present moment with clarity and focus by teaching us to focus on our breath.

Conscious Parenting – Welcome to Parent & Child Connection Day

Our main objective for today is straightforward. We will learn and practice connecting without any projections or secret agendas.

Be present and connect with your children with clear intentions.

Conscious Parenting – Cultural Paradigms

It might feel daunting, but flow with the process. You will feel freer and lighter as you release all the culture’s patterns.

All these myths ingrained in our culture are based on fear. Remember: fear always creates the desire to control. And control always obstructs connection.

Conscious parenting is all about moving away from control and toward connection. Therefore, a big piece of this is letting go of all fear-based paradigms.

Dr. Shefali, Today’s Course tasks

Reflect on the cultural archetypes (check your workbook for detailed instructions).

  • What do they mean to you?
  • Where did they come from? How did you adopt each of them?
  • How do these beliefs affect your relationship with your children?

Remember: The goal is not to say whether they are good or bad but to become aware.

Dr. Shefali Conscious Parenting Course – IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Understand that it’s normal to experience pain. Sometimes, it’s even necessary. Today’s content might bring up some past inner wounds.
Be kind and have compassion for yourself. Reach out for support in the Tribe if you need to.

  • Today’s exercise concerns letting anything come up naturally at the right time. There’s no need to push hard to get it right. Enter the space of acceptance, and allow.

  • Take your time to do the exercise. Understand your limits and choose your level of engagement according to how ready you are to go deep.

  • Don’t force yourself to finish everything if it doesn’t feel right. Remember, you can revisit and re-do the exercise in the future. It’s a life-long process, not an instant fix.

Dr. Shefali: Tackle the Roots of Your Parenting Fears

There are a lot of occasions when your heart is filled with fear and concern for your child, but instead of expressing this great love and care, you overreact with anger or fury.

Our children don’t experience our love but feel the shame of our anger and rejection, which shuts us down.

Today, we learn how culture teaches us to fear and recognize the deepest root of our fear.

Be aware of the root of your fear today. Tomorrow, we will learn how to transform it into courage.

Conscious Parenting Mindvalley – Today’s tasks

  • Reflect on your most recent heated argument or fight with your child.
  • Investigate the root of fear beneath your reaction.

Dr. Shefali’s Expectations of Empathic Parental Engagement

Most of our expectations for our children are conditioned by cultural archetypes.

The second Transformative Parenting skill is moving from expectations to empathic engagement.

The moment we have expectations of our children, they smell it. They know we want something from them. And they begin to withdraw from us.

Expectations create conditional love. Expectations kill the connection.

Let’s learn how to release or re-align expectations and enter an empathic engagement.

Today’s tasks

Choose your level of engagement, and find detailed instructions in your workbook.

Light Engagement

Practice Expectation Detox.

Medium engagement

You’re invited to continue and go even more profound. Remember the last time you felt stuck and realized that you expected something from your child? What’s beneath that expectation?

Full engagement

Commit to releasing one of your expectations.
