Why FaceBook is so Popular

“It’s important for people to talk and get beyond the wall of Facebook and social media.” – Billy Corgan

Wikipedia – Facebook (formerly (the facebook) is an online social networking service headquartered in Menlo Park, California. Its website was launched on February 4, 2004, by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes.

Facebook is the number one social network service in the world with more than 1.4 billion active users.

Facebook  has over 135 million unique visitors a month and over 41% of the U.S. has a Facebook account.

I was wondering why people are so intrigued with Facebook so I decided to do a little research.

My findings were that Facebook meets many if not all of the six basic human needs.

I learned about the six basic human needs through Tony Robbins Personal Power 2 audio program. So, here is a list of the six basic human needs according to Tony.

Funny Facebook saying

Six Human Needs

1. Certainty/Comfort. We all want certainty that we can be comfortable in life. We like to know that our house will still be standing and not blown away by a tornado. Or that our car will start, or that the sun will still shine.

2. Variety. At the same time we want certainty, we also crave variety. Paradoxically, there needs to be enough uncertainty to provide spice and adventure in our lives.

3. Significance. We need to feel that we matter; that we are somehow important.

4. Connection/Love. We want to be cared for and cared about and also care for and love others.

5. Growth. To become better, to improve our skills, to learn and grow.

6. Contribution. The need to contribute something of value—to help others, to make the world better.

Face book gives you immediate certainty that all your friends will be there waiting for you.

There is much variety on Facebook from connecting to many people, to setting up a business profile to Farmville and games.

Significance is easily made by setting up your own page on Facebook. Hey, look at me, learn all about me here. Connection and love is easy with so many people wanting to be your friend.

You will get to stretch and grow yourself using Facebook. And finally Facebook allows you to contribute to your Facebook Page and anyone else’s for that matter.

Any business or relationship in the world will be a guaranteed success if you implement the six basic human needs template.

Facebbok saying

Digital Narcissism – Selfies

Noun – Excessive or erotic interest in oneself and one’s physical appearance.

Psychology – Extreme selfishness, with a grandiose view of one’s own talents and a craving for admiration, as characterizing a personality type.

Psychoanalysis – Self-centeredness arising from failure to distinguish the self from external objects, either in very young babies or as a feature of mental disorder.

This pretty much depicts what I see on Facebook for better or for worse, and I’m sure the creators of Facebook knew that it would be the perfect vehicle for people to show off their narcissistic personality disorders.

Who doesn’t love to receive instant gratification?

No one.

If we could get what we want in an instant we all would do it.

I can safely say I have never taken a selfie in my life, and yes we all have a little “inner narcissist” inside of us.

Some just a whole lot more than others.

Facebook Pros and Cons

I use Facebook too.

I have advertised products on Facebook plus I have a page for Mazzastick on there as well even though a very tiny portion of my audience actually sees my posts.

Facebook is a good way to stay in touch with my favorite authors and bloggers.

Unlike most people, I am not at all that interested in what is going on in other people’s lives.

I do see people become very agitated if you post something on your wall and it shows up on their timeline.

It seems some people just feel as though their opinion is valuable to me or any one else for that matter.

I don’t mind intelligent, well though out feedback mind you.

Its the knee jerk reactions that really boggle my mind.

Either way, Facebook can be a very useful tool for growing your brand or business, or for showing the world a picture of yourself in a very tiny bikini.

To each their own.

Another thing people should be aware of is what they post on Facebook.

Everything on the internet is monitored to some degree so be wise what you say, do, or promote on Facebook.
