The Secret to Getting What You Want

| February 8, 2012

How to get what you want is a question that you probably asked many times.

Getting what you want is part of the experience of life.

How do I get the career of my dreams, how do I get the perfect mate, how do I win the lottery?

You get it right? How do we get what we want?

I have plugged away at this blog for over a year now putting in over 3000 hours and counting towards achieving my goal of financial independence.

I have been a student of blogging for the past year learning and using everything that I learned and making mistakes along the way too.

My blog is my business and it is an income stream for me. The more I earn the more that I can put back into it.

Earning online for a newbie like me is not easy and I dream for the day when I look into my Click Bank account and see thousands of dollars in sales.

Since I love to achieve goals and failure is not an option I have worked really hard to get affiliate sales and earn more through Adsense. While every month I earn income I am not even close to reaching my online financial goals.

The past year I only made one sale on Click Bank and that was from someone buying a copy of the course: The Art of Lucid Dreaming. The first product that I ever promoted on Click Bank.

In case you are wondering, HostGator is my number one affiliate product so far. It must be because I throw in a free copy of my eBook for New Bloggers plus I have a coupon that anyone can use to get 25% off for hosting.

Last week while doing my daily meditation/reflection I asked that I please make one sale on Click Bank just to be sure that it is working properly and to be sure that there are no problems with the affiliate system.

This morning when I went online I checked Click Bank lo and behold there it was. A $43.00 sale on Click Bank. My first in over eight months. I was ecstatic to say the least and all that I kept saying was , “thank you” out loud over and over again. An attitude of gratitude goes a long way. ;)

Not only did I receive the Click Bank sale but when I checked the mail at my house I got a letter from Host Gator and in it was a free $100 gift card for Google Adwords. (Thanks HostGator)!.

Adwords is Google’s advertising network that allows your ads for products or services to be displayed on hundreds of thousands of websites until your credit runs out.

When I finished writing my eBook for New Bloggers I went to Adwords and got $25 in credits.

Adwords is a pay per click system and you can set what you are willing to pay for clicks as high or as low as you want.

I had mine set at 50 cents per click. That’s 25 cents for the publisher and 25 cents for Google. That is how it works I believe. Well I didn’t even get one sale with that campaign and I spent $25 for no return on my investment.

Before I even begin another Adwords campaign I am going to research more about effectively using Adwords and getting the most bang for my buck even though in this case it’s free for me.

Today was a great day indeed and I’m not sure if I will use the free Adwords gift card to promote my popular eBook for New Bloggers or to direct traffic to my coaching services. Decisions decisions. :)

Back to the topic at hand

Alright enough about my recent good fortunes this post is supposed to be about how to get what you want.

Many years ago I read an awesome book called: Conversations With God by Neale Donald Walsch.
It was suggested to me by my personal coach and I was eager to get to Barnes and Noble and read it. As a matter of fact I read the Conversations With God trilogy in three days along with many cups of coffee.

If you have never read any of Neale’s books I recommend that you do. Conversations with God is not about religion it’s more about your own personal connections and beliefs about God.

In Conversations With God Neale suggests that the easiest way to get what you want is to give someone else what they want. Did you get that? The easiest way to get what you want is to give someones else what they want.

Just to be clear Neale is not talking about giving in to someones demands but rather when someone needs help or assistance with something, especially if they ask you, give it to them. Say “Yes” to it.

Success leaves clues

I am a firm believer in the truth that success leaves clues. Today I had two major blogging successes and I had to figure out what I did or maybe did not do to attract these two successes.

After doing some reflecting I was able to come up with some ideas of what I did, thought, and said this past week.

Last week my Aunt (Grandmothers sister) asked me if I would drive her to Pennsylvania for a funeral that she needed to attend. She wasn’t familiar with the area and she wanted some company too. When she asked me of course I said “yes” and we went to the funeral together.

One of the perks of being an online entrepreneur is that I don’t have a bovine master dictating my schedule. I am free to be of help to others most of the time.

Second helping

Two days ago my neighbor asks me if I would be available on Tuesday to help him put up some shelves in his garage. Of course I said, “yes” and we got those shelves up.

Last night I was telling my wife how I just wanted to get some affiliate sales online because business has been so slow lately. Other than Adsense and HostGator, and the occasional Amazon sale my online income was beginning to stagnate.

I mainly promote products through Click Bank but I also promote Commission Junction and some Joint Venture products and services too. The great thing about Click Bank is that they have a 60 day no hassle return policy.

And all the products that I promote here have at least a 30 day money back guarantee. The reason I am going through all of this is because I wanted to make sure I didn’t have any negative beliefs holding me back from earning online through affiliate sales.

Perhaps some worry or guilt of what others might say or think of me for trying to earn a living online promoting affiliate products. Eventually I was able dissolve any worry or guilt that I had by reminding myself that people don’t go into Wal-Mart and complain about all the stuff in there that is for sale so why should my blog be any different.

The success clues

So what I gather is this; I helped two people this week get what they wanted. I said out loud what I wanted. And finally I got out of my way (distracted myself) to receive what I want.

Next time you really want something help someone else get what they want first. Then say out loud or at least write it down in your journal or notebook what you want. Be honest without guilt or worry and allow it to come to you.

What you want may not come exactly in the form or manner that you want it to but it will come. Plus you should be excited to know that this Law of Attraction/ manifesting stuff really works.

Have you manifested anything lately, any manifesting tips you want to share?

“It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.”~ Napoleon Hill

Do you remember that first spark of hope you felt when you watched The Secret? I clearly remember the desire that filled my heart, knowing that – Yes, I can make my dreams come true – FINALLY!

But how many of you soon saw that hope dwindle into frustration? How many of you (and be honest now) started muttering things like:

- “It seems to work for other people, but I just can’t get it right.”

- “I’m frustrated that sometimes I can get it to work, but sometimes I can’t. What’s the trick?”

- “Why am I having so much trouble?”

- “I think the universe is against me.”

- “I’m trying very, VERY hard but still nothing is happening!”

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. About 97% of people also couldn’t make the Law of Attraction work for them the first time round. Think about it, just like anything else, you have to practice many times before you see success. A child doesn’t learn to walk without falling over a couple of times, right?

Hey Justin, congratulations on getting the sale. It feels good to get something like that especially if it has been a long time since your last one. I know that it always feels good to help others just for the sake of it, but getting a little money on the side feels pretty good too.

Hi Justin

I just wanted to say that I agree with you. Success does leave clues. Success actually attracts success in my opinion. I watched The secret too. Gives you motivation.

You said that, that people soon after watching The secret, tend to get these frustrations. That's true. But remember. Thinking about the problem is the problem.

Thanks Justin,

I'm happy for you man. You deserve success online. We are about to launch our first web tool for the public and I'll certainly be looking for affiliates. It has to do with helping people improve communication between each other.

In the mean time, I'm looking forward to getting more of what I want as well :)

This was fascinating to me for many reasons. For one, I've never tried or even really thought about making money with my blog. So your approach to it was very intriguing. Second, and more important, the idea of vision, creativity, and achievement is always thought provoking. For me, as I've gotten older, my goals have become less specific, and I suppose then easier to achieve--ha!

Justin Mazza 57 pts moderator

galenpearl I like to receive as much as give. In order for me to give to others I need to receive as well. No one really owns money it just flows from person to person.

If I didn't set goals for this blog I probably would not of had the success that have so far. I didn't want this blog to be a place where I occasionally write a post. It is a business for me and I take it seriously while still having fun and adding value for others to benefit from.

take care...

Justin Mazza Just to be clear, I don't think one approach is better or more worthy than another. I am fortunate that I have other income so I wasn't looking to make my blog a career. And I like to receive, too! You make a great point about goals and success. I can see bloggers like yourself, who have taken blogworld by storm because you have something of value to offer and you make the effort to market it. One of the things I like about blogworld is the different motivations and goals that bloggers bring to the table. I started my blog as a way to generate ideas for a retreat I was going to lead. I really didn't know anything about blogs and I was surprised when it took off (in a very modest way) and became a thing of its own. I guess I'm an accidental blogger, but no less committed to it. Anyway, just wanted to be sure that my earlier comment wasn't taken the wrong way. I am awed and impressed by bloggers like yourself who are savvy and successful.

Justin Mazza 57 pts moderator

galenpearl Hi Galen, Naw, I didn't take your previous comment the wrong way. You have always been kind with your words.

It seems that there are bloggers who want to make money, who are making money, and bloggers who do it for reasons not involving money.

To each their own of course, but for me it is something that has cause me to really stretch and grow and I am still learning much about being online and of course monetizing my work.

No worries my friend,

Justin

Hi Justin, I'm actually helping people just because I want to not because I want something back from somewhere else. It's the same with all my blogs, I help people with anything and the money follow. It take lots of time and I would suggest that PPC is much better for the beginning then affiliate. With affiliate you need to build huge community with trust and it take some time.

BTW: congrats to the first sale. It'll get better from now.

Justin Mazza 57 pts moderator

Smarty It sounds like you are really focused on creating value for others and you will be/are successful because of that. This post was inspired because many people don't have the mindset of giving/helping to others.

Perhaps if they could see and know that what they do for others will come back to them then they will be more likely to want to be of help and service to others. When I help another I am not expecting anything in return but like clockwork something that I wanted to happen or good news comes my way shortly thereafter.

Thanks Smarty, I am looking forward to getting more affiliate sales in the future.

It's funny, a few of the blogs / articles i've been reading have to do with manifestation. i think it's a sign the universe is giving me. i need to manifest more, law of attraction, just think positive. it will all happen in good time

Hi Justin,

You make such great points in your post. What goes around, comes around, and when we reach out to others in comes back in ways we may never have expected. It is so interesting to read about your online efforts. It is challenging, but the efforts could be well worth your while. The key to success, I believe is to not quit. Justin,

I am so glad you shared your story here! Blogging is definitely hard work and making money through it requires all the more work but yes, you seem to have got it all nicely done! :)

I think determination and motivation and the will to get what you want goes a long way. We have to stick to our core values, understand what is best for us and keep working on it. It takes a lot to actually achieve your success but it is worth all the effort! :)

Thanks for such a lovely post!

Justin -- particularly like the point you made about getting out of your own way. It's hard to emphasize that enough. Almost all of the best things that have happened to me were not actually caused by me; they came about when I was focused on something else (thought I was still usually focused on myself in some way). How much more progress might we make on our journeys if, like you urge, we put other people first?

Justin Mazza 57 pts moderator

Stephen Martin It works, I have seen and given so many opportunities to people and many of them unconsciously blocked their success by saying no or not following through.

Justin, great thoughts here, my friend. It's true. ANd it's given to us in every major religion by every major life teacher. What you give comes back to you. In my tradition, the sacred text says, "Give and it will come back to you, pressed down, shaken together, and running over." (Luke 6:38) It's true of life. And I think it goes beyond physical deeds. Every good attitude you give, every kind word you speak, every smile you give, it all comes back. And it's ALL wealth. Great post!

Thanks Justin for this article. It reminded me to read my copy of "Conversations With God" - I have it in my book shelf, but haven't read it yet. :)

Are the 2 other books of his trilogy also a good read?

Hi Peter,

Yes, The conversations with God trilogy is a worthy read. About three years ago I got the book on CD and would listen to it while I worked outside. Just such simple and practical information that needs to be read by all.

I enjoyed every word of this post. I particularly enjoyed your frank discussion on how well you were doing on attempting to make a living online. I have read about doing all of that stuff too but due to a bad case of computer eyestrain, I have to limit my time on the computer and so for now, I just blog for fun. But I loved hearing about how you are doing. When I was in the craft show business, others in the same business were often reluctant to reveal exactly how they were doing which made it hard to judge whether I was doing well in comparison or not. Occasionally I would meet someone who was willing to disclose and it was a great learning curve for both of us as we shared our efforts and results.

So happy for you that you are seeing some results from your efforts.

For me, getting what I want goes like this. I pray and tell God my needs. I leave it with him. Usually if I spend enough time with God, by the time I am done, I don't even care anymore if I get what I want. Then if it actually happens, and I get what I want, I have to remember 'oh ya, I prayed about that' and when I remember that, I have to thank God for listening, hearing and answering my prayers. It becomes all about God and not about me.

Justin Mazza 57 pts moderator

wendylove Some blogs do a monthly income report breaking down all the ways that they earned online that month. Some of them are really doing well, Like 40k a month.

Praying is a great way to get what we want or need. I like the way how you explained that you do this.

marcus_baker 9 pts

Hi Justin,

In my experience the key to getting what you want is releasing all need or want for it and believing unfalteringly that what you want is on its way.

Sounds simple enough but knowing this and practising it are two totally different matters. We have to train ourselves to focus our vibration differently and it takes as long as it has to take to learn how to change our program.

I have worked at this for over ten years and only now am I starting to see more frequent manifestations of what I want come more easily.

It starts with little changes and then as we get better at allowing so the momentum builds and the law of attraction gives us more of what we are allowing. It's all in the release. You are doing just fine!

~Marcus

Justin Mazza 57 pts moderator

marcus_baker It seems like the manifestation process is happening much quicker than before. My challenge has always been releasing the inner resistance. Once I do that manifesting comes much easier with less effort.

Hi Justin,

Interesting pattern you describe. What you give to world will come back to you in some form..

If it the pattern would hold, than you just need to find a way to help 10 times more people and you will get 10 times more financial income as well.

Thanks for sharing your story.
